- we hope you enjoy the experience.
-
- For information on how to use LiveArt, run the LiveArt Tutorial or look
- at the LiveArt Help documents that are accessible through the Start Menu.
- Example files in Word and PowerPoint formats are also available.
-
- Note: LiveArt has been certified to work inside the following applications.
- Microsoft Word97
- Microsoft PowerPoint97
- Microsoft Excel97
- Use LiveArt's SketchPad to import LiveArt images into a host of other applications.
-
- When you go to insert your LiveArt object in the Insert/ object menu of your
- host application, choose 'Viewpoint LiveArt' from the list of insertable objects.
-
- Register on-line to get your FREE LIVESTYLE. Visit
- www.viewpoint.com/liveart for more information.
-
-
-
- 2. USING LIVEART
- ----------------
-
-
- The Model Browser requires that the CD be in the Drive to find the models.
-
- The interaction speed of LiveArt will vary with different objects and
- styles because more complex objects and styles generally have more
- detail to draw. If your computer seems to be not responding as quickly
- with certain styles, try using Basic Draw to position the object. Then
- switch to the more complex style for the final picture.
-
-
- 3. WORKING WITH DIRECT3D
- ------------------------
-
- LiveArt98 can utilize Microsoft's Direct3D technology for fast interactive rendering.
- The version LiveArt uses is part of Microsoft's DirectX 5.0. DirectX 5.0 works
- with Windows95, but not Windows NT 4.0. To get the best performance, you'll need
- to use LiveArt Preferences application (as described in the documentation) to
- the turn on Direct3D acceleration.
-
- Cards (and chipsets) Direct3D has been tested with (and known to work with):
-
- NVidia Riva128
- 3DLabs Permedia 2
- Matrox Millenium 2
- Intel i740
-
- Cards (and chipsets) that Direct3D HW currently does NOT work
- with:
- Voodoo 3dfx
- Matrox M3D (and likely any other PowerVR based card).
-
- ATI Rage2Pro does not draw textures with D3D hardware
- acceleration.
-
- Hercules Stingray 128/3D does not work on textures with D3D hardware
- acceleration. It will lock up the computer, we advise turning off D3D
- hardware acceleration for this card.
-
- Turning on Direct3D Hardware Support: You can turn on Direct3D by
- checking the Use D3D box on the Preferences panel located in,
- Start Menu/ Programs/ Viewpoint LiveArt/ LiveArt Preferences.
-
- If your video card does not support hardware acceleration, you will not
- be able to view the Use D3D box in LiveArt Preferences.
-
- Technical Requirements for 3D Video Card:
- DirectX 5.0
- 16-bit color
- Z-compares
- Texture blending - decal and modulate
-
- Known acceleration issues:
-
- If you are using a hardware acceleration card and are experiencing crashes
- after working for a while, try going to the Display control, (Start menu/
- Settings/ Display/ Advanced/ Settings/ Performance), and setting the
- acceleration slider down a level. (Please let us know if you have any
- problems along these lines)
-
- Texture management:
- Because Direct3D has no built-in texture management scheme, there
- are often problems with the allocation of texture surfaces in
- video memory. This will result in messages such as:
-
- Could not create texture background
- and
- Could not create texture surface
-
- If this happens, try deactivating and reactivating the object. To do
- this, click off of the active area, then double click it again. (This
- sometimes frees up the texture surfaces from video memory.) You can
- avoid some of these problems by working in a non-textured style and
- switching when you've finished positioning your model. Textured
- styles are Pointist, India, Newsie, and Cill. Non-textured styles
- include: Basic Draw, Neon, and Lina. Using the Catalog to preview
- styles will also help.
-
-
- Seams:
- Direct3D has rendering problems which sometimes results in seams
- showing between the edges and the surface of the object. This
- should not affect inactive display and printing, as OpenGL is used
- to render the inactive bitmap.
-
-
-
- 4. REGARDING KNOWN ISSUES
- -----------------
-
- While we do our best to make your experience with our software as
- productive and pleasant as we can, once in a while you may encounter
- a problem we haven't seen before. If you run into a problem, please
- let our tech support staff know as soon as possible, and we will try
- and figure out a work around while we idenify and fix the problem so
- others won't encounter it. When you register, we'll let you know when
- updates are release. Most updates will be a combination of fixes and
- a cool feature or two, if we can sneak them in.
- Register on-line to get up-to-date
- information. (www.viewpoint.com/liveart/registration)
-
- Known Issues/Limiations:
-
- * You cannot use LiveArt from a networked CD-ROM drive. LiveArt searches for
- models on all CD-ROM drives attached to the machine. CD-ROM drives mounted
- from the network do not show up as CD-ROM drives, but as network drives,
- and will not be recognized.
-
- * LiveArt, and most graphics hardware, works best in 16-bit color depth or higher.
- If you're using hardware acceleration go to, Start Menu/ Settings/ Control
- Panel/ Display/ Settings, and set color depth to 16-bit or higher.
-
- * LiveArt does not properly save an active server. Deactivate the
- server before saving by clicking off the active area in programs such as Word and Powerpoint.
-
- * LiveArt does not handle resolution changes while editing an object. If
- you'd like to change resolution, save what your working on, close the
- application, then change the resolution.
-
- * Right and Left mouse buttons sometimes get confused.
- (Right-click to clear.)
-
- * If you use the Picture control to crop, the size of the LiveArt image will
- be inconsistent. To avoid this, you can resize the canvas to the desired
- proportions, then reactivate it by double clicking on it. Then zoom in on the
- object to get the desired cropping effect.
-
- * When wrapping text in Microsoft Office 97, it works only the first time.
- The wrap bounding box doesn't update if you change the orientation of the model.
-
- * There is a slightly off-white background when an object is
- supposed to be on a white background in Word97. This discoloration will
- not show up when printing on a black and white printer, but may be appear
- if printed on a color printer.
-
- * Note that when editing models within large windows, the application
- will become fairly slow (especially on 133mhz or slower machines).
- Just be patient and eventually LiveArt will catch up. To improve
- performance while editing, use a simpler style, such as Basic Draw.
- This will allow you to position your models and select lighting before
- switching to the final style. Also, position the model in as small
- a window as possible and resize it when you're done.
-
- * Saving a document in WordPad, then opening it in Word 97, or vice versa,
- will yield inconsistent results. It is recommended that documents only
- be opened by the program they were saved in.
-
- * Using Right-Click Drag to copy LiveArt objects in Word 97 may lose
- data back to the previously saved state of the object. This was a result of
- not wanting to have LiveArt constantly saving to disk, and therefore degrading
- your performance. Data loss canbe avoided by saving the document before you try
- to Right-Click Drag.A safer way to copy controls around (within Word anyhow)
- is to use Copy and Paste (Either using Ctl-C and Ctl-V or choosing Copy and
- Pastefrom the Right-Click Menu will work ) on an inactive control. You can
- also copy an active control by holding down Tab as you drag out of the control.
-
